Delivering ATERNUS-EX for evacuating tunnels

The latest addition to the ATERNUS family, our 100% electric minibuses, is currently being delivered.
Introducing the ATERNUS-EX, the first specifically designed for explosive environments with ATEX certification.
The vehicle, available in two different configurations (Evacuation and Ambulance), was designed as an emergency vehicle for use in newly constructed tunnels excavated by TBM.
Our client is WeBuild, an Italian construction and civil engineering market leader. Thanks to its partnership with Bertinex, a company specializing in the conversion and certification of ATEX vehicles, Tekne has achieved its goal of equipping several of the most important tunnels under construction with its own emergency vehicles, necessary for the protection and safety of workers in the event of dangerous explosions.
100% electric, equipped with a 25 kW 80 V motor and two high-capacity batteries totaling 320 Ah, the ATERNUS-EX range vehicles combine the performance of a true electric shuttle with the ability to operate in ATEX-classified areas. They include all components already certified for use in potentially explosive environments. Their compact dimensions, inherited from the ATERNUS family, allow for agile driving even in tunnels, making them ideal for evacuating personnel and injured workers.

The version being delivered today to the Sicilian consortium of the Palermo-Catania line is the ATERNUS-EX Evacuation: the vehicle is designed to remain constantly present alongside the TBM during excavation, ready to evacuate workers in the event of a dangerous gas leak. The vehicle can accommodate up to 16 people plus a stretcher for any injured persons, ensuring the safety of an entire work team.
The Ambulance version will also be available soon.
